Clippers say no deal to proposed trade for Paul

Clippers say no deal to proposed trade for Paul: LOS ANGELES, the day started with the Los Angeles Clippers reject the proposed transaction on the New Orleans Hornets for Chris Paul, and it ended with them saying, five-time All-Star guard Chauncey Billups from the failure and re-sign center DeAndre Jordan.

The Director-General Neil Olshey said Monday; the team felt "the cost was too high," in which she would have to abandon the purchase of Paul.

Olshey declined to name any proposed Clippers in exchange for Paul, and their package reportedly includes Chris Kaman center, reserve guard Eric Bledsoe, forward Al-Farouq Aminu and their number 1 choice in 2012 draft. According to the Hornets would also like guard Eric Gordon included.

"There was not one piece or another piece of who killed the deal", Olshey said. "Total compensation, we will have to show them too much, and he was going to cripple our franchise in the long run."

This is the second time in five days, the deal moving Paul in Los Angeles fell apart. Last week, NBA Commissioner David Stern has rejected three teams owned by Hornets Trade League, the Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets, which would have sent Paul to the Lakers.

"This is a superstar player who is obviously a delicate situation with his current franchise," Olshey said. "We just feel right now we simply cannot meet, where we are equally pleased with the outcome."

Clippers used their remaining $ 3.5 million salary cap room to claim Billups. 35-year-old playmaker was to abandon the New York Knicks last weekend.

"We tried eight, 10 times over the years to try and trade for Chauncey. It's never worked before", Olshey said. "This is another great addition to our roster. It will be great with our guys."

Billups averaged 16.8 points, 5.4 and 2.6 transmission of choice in 72 games with Denver and the Knicks last season. He was traded to New York in February. He helped lead Detroit to the NBA championship in 2004, when he was a player final.

Olshey said the decision to acquire Billups does not depend on the team refuse Hornets' offer.

"This is not a harbinger of even a single step. It is not laying the groundwork for another opportunity," he said.

Clippers need was Billups with Bledsoe, is expected to be sidelined six to eight weeks while recovering from knee surgery on October 7, right.

"He has the ability to add much to our organization on and off the court," coach Vinny Del Negro said of Billups. "He is not ready to retire. It's too much left in the tank."

Command corresponds to $ 42.7 million four-year offer sheet from the Golden State Warriors to a restricted free agent Jordan; Olshey told him that they will do when they use their cap space.

23-year-old center has appeared in a career-high 80 games last season, averaging 7.1 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.78 blocks, making 66 starts.

"He did a good job for us last year. We expect great things from him," Del Negro said."DeAndre brings defensive presence for us, shot blocking, he runs the court well, he's very young still, he will only get better."

Olshey said the team will now turn its attention to the debate about the signing of Gordon's contract extension.

Clippers signed Caron Butler to $ 24 million, three-year contract Friday, giving them the impetus to small forward.

"This is a better team, which is on the floor now and in the future than what it would collect if we were to pass a package that they asked for", Olshey said of the Hornets' offer.
