Raiders "studs" Ram Chargers
Oakland recently acquired defender Carson Palmer propelled the Raiders to 24-17 victory over the recession San Diego Chargers at Qualcomm Stadium on Thursday.
Win moves the Raiders (5-4) into first place in the AFC West, while the division rival San Diego (4-5) defeated the fourth consecutive time.
Palmer, playing in his third game with Oakland, has completed 14 of 20 attempts for 299 yards to go, and two touchdowns to rookie receiver Denarius Moore.
"Our offense will be scary," Raiders linebacker Kamerion Wimbley told reporters. "Carson is just three games, but we believe in it.

PSU's Pat Chambers: 'It's somber here'
Geno Thorpe, Pittsburgh area talent, which recruited the Panthers, as well as Kansas and Wisconsin, announced Tuesday that he will attend Penn State.It was a huge scoop for the new coach Pat Chambers, one that will resonate loudly usually in basketball circles.
This, however, are not normal days at the University of Pennsylvania.
With the scandal swirling around the football program - specifically child molestation charges against former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky - basketball, and almost everything else on campus took a back seat.
"It's dark here, dark for several reasons,''said Chambers.
His work in building basketball program certainly seems trivial in light of the charges, and much more that eight of the victims reportedly suffered. But basketball season is here and Chambers work. Nittany Lions open the season on Saturday against Hartford.
The team decided to hint at 4:30, hoping to cash in on the overflow of fans pouring out of Beaver Stadium the following afternoon game against the football team of Nebraska.
"You should try and do their own thing,''said Chambers." What more can we do? We must stay together through it, try to keep a positive attitude and mentality of the trenches.''
Chambers called his team together for group meetings, trying to answer their questions and reassure them of the problem.
But the answers, he admits, is not so easy to find.
"The charges, all of it is in the legal system, so not much I can say is," he said. "But I can say I am a father so it's obviously hit home. If true, this is disturbing, despicable, but there is not much more I can say than that."
None of this is not going away any time soon there are lengthy legal issues facing the Sandusky and two sports administrators accused of failing to alert authorities. There will be issues dogging Joe Paterno and the stigma of the university.
Of course, it will come, when Chambers hit recruiting trail.
Even Thorpe, high primary school, was asked about the scandal during his press conference.
"It's sad to see, but at the same time it did not prevent my decision,''he told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

"He was a fighter, pure and simple, in a style that seemed destined for a short career. Plod ahead, rely on the other guy take two to land one", Hochman wrote.
"You must breathe on it," Frazier would say, in the rare attempt to define his style. 'No shortcuts' was his mantra. There's a lesson there for us all, "Hochman said column on Tuesday.
Fraser, two-time champion for nearly three years, until he lost in January 1973, with George Foreman, ran a famous hall in Philadelphia for many years.

USC coach Lane Kiffin thought Robert Woods out of the boundaries with a second left in regulation, which would give the Trojans a chance to try a 50-yard field goal. Instead, officials decided to replay that knee touched the Woods in the borders and at the last minute was allowed to expire.

He needed a season-ending surgery to repair a torn tendon in his right ankle last year, and he broke his left hand when he was hit by pitch this season. He was hit by another pitch in August and had a concussion.
Every time he came back better than before.
"I'm so proud of him," said McGuire. "I kept telling him that it shows the character when you start to break through these walls, these stumbling blocks. There's always something good at the end of the road, and here it is."
Freese hit three run Homer in Game 6 of the NLCS against Milwaukee, earning the MVP of this series. His performance against the Rangers made him the sixth player to be a player league championship series World Series in one season.
Until the Cardinals' last shot in Game 6, tying Freese delivered two run triple in the ninth inning Thursday night. Vries then one better: leadoff Homer in 11th, which gave St. Louis a dramatic victory and forced the first Game 7 since 2002.

Up until his final blow, his two run triple in the ninth forced extra innings, and he joined the Bill Mazeroski, Carlton Fisk, Kirby Puckett and Joe Carter, as only players to hit a game of infinite Homer in Game 6 or later Fall Classic.

Premier League preview
Sunderland will be keen to kick-start their season when they take Aston Villa in the English Premier League action on Saturday.Steve Bruce won the men only twice so far this campaign, in recent years thanks to goals from Stephane Sessegnon and Nicklas Bendtner in the 2-0 victory over Bolton at the Reebok Stadium on Saturday.
But aside from that win, and their crushing 4-0 home win over Stoke City on September 18, he was thin pickings for men Bruce, who were in 14th place on nine points after nine games.
Party Alex McLeish, meanwhile, is just two points better than their opponents on Saturday, saying that the 11 points to sit in 11th place.
But they arrive at the Stadium of Light in some indifferent form after suffering a loss of 01.02 West Brom in their last start, although McLeish was right to be offended when defender Chris Herd was violently removed after 35 minutes.

Nick Fairley on his Lions' debut
Lion’s rookie defensive tackle Nick Fairley, 13th overall draft pick, has admitted that a few nerves before he made his debut in the season, 24-13 on Monday night victory over Chicago."Yes, I would say yes because he was the first one there," Farley said. "It was with mixed feelings: a tall, nervously. But once I got that first (play) in the direction of, the nerves were gone and it's time to ball."
Fairleigh barely saw the practice field because he broke his left leg on August 1. But he practiced for four consecutive days last week and said he got the green light to play after practicing on Sunday guide.
"He was healthy, and we prepared for a reason for him to play," coach Jim Schwartz."It's been a while that we waited so long to (see) that. He made some really good things in practice this week. Put your foot in the rear view mirror and got a good start."
Schwartz said Farley played an equivalent number of pictures for an exhibition game, which would have been in the sub-20 next door.
"I think I did well," said Farley. "There is always room for improvement. That's how I feel when I'm on the D-line. So basically I just watch the film, see what I did wrong, correct it and then come back next week and make plays ".
Defensive end Cliff Avril was impressed with Farley, who was credited with a hit back.
"Amazing", said Avril. "I watched him for a couple of plays when I was on the sideline. It's so much potential. Even after being with him for so long, he bounced back and a couple of pressure, playing well ahead of the game. It's just crazy to see how it going to get when he's healthy at 100% and was not thinking about what's going on around him. "
