Verizon Wireless: Verizon Wireless has joined forces with Intuit in order to sell and distribute their GoPayment credit card reader among their 2300 stores and other distribution channels. These handy little devices connect via the headphone jack on most Apple, Android and BlackBerry smartphones and tablets.
Terms of the agreement were not disclosed, but it can be a very profitable move for Verizon, offering consumers the incentive to make their next smartphone or tablet buys one of their retail outlets.
Earlier this spring, we reported IPad applications optimized specifically for GoPayment, concluding that it looked like a convenient way to process credit card transactions with a lower monthly payment or a transaction fee.
While there are other card reading devices available on the market from companies such as Square or Veriphone, Intuit may be a better choice given their reputation and history with financial software as the developers of QuickBooks, Quicken and TurboTax. This is especially relevant if you are using QuickBooks because you can download your transaction information directly from the device itself without any additional hassle.
If you are interested in giving this payment solution a try, Verizon Wireless customers can request the device for free (after a $ 30 mail-in rebate) and if you opt into the monthly subscription you will receive the first two months at no charge.
Intuit is now a device available for free on their website as well, but these purchases do not come from training or support services that Verizon Wireless will offer as a companion for their sale.
GoPayment service provides full compatibility with all major credit cards, including Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover. It would be nice if in the future was also an opportunity to Interac.
