Westminster Dog Show Welcomes

NEW YORK, - The Quiet Pekingese slowly ran to victory on Tuesday at the 136th Westminster Kennel Club show, winning Dalmatian, German Shepherd, Dachshund, and three other dogs to become the first of his breed to win the prestigious annual event since 1990.

Malachi, the four-year-old dog is officially known as Ch. Palacegarden Malachi, a charmed packed Madison Square Garden Arena crowd, who roared their approval when his victory was announced.

Judge Cindy Vogels, who had been sequestered from the two-day competition, has not yet stepped into the ring for the best in the finale of his show, as described in 11-pound Malachi as "super-dog, which was a huge night."

"He was impressive," she said with a dog, which was number one in the toy group during the last two years and has won 115 best in show titles.

"It corresponds to (rock), the standard way ... great tonight, he was perfect," she said.

Pekingese, which attracted a lot of gentle laughter of the crowd with his shock of high-whipped hair, won it with soulful gaze up at the handler, David Fitzpatrick, as he walked around the ring in a deliberate pace that contrasts with the other dogs' trotting gate.

"These gates should be slow and dignified," Fitzpatrick said the toy breed. Earlier in the day, he said, the dog was "very calm and quiet," although he noted that "it is an extrovert in the ring."

Other dogs participating in a best of show round included the Irish Setter, Kerry Blue Terrier, and Doberman pinscher. There is an Irish Setter, Dalmatian or Dachshund has never won best in show at Westminster, the country's second oldest sporting event in the race only for the Kentucky Derby thoroughbred horses.

Fitzpatrick said Malachy, owned by Iris Love and Sandra Middlebrooks as well as himself, would now retire to the life of a house pet. "He won't be doing commercials, he's been working hard enough for the past two years," Fitzpatrick said.

But first, the nation's newest top dog will embark upon a string of television appearances on news and talk shows befitting other celebrities with one name, such as Madonna and Cher.

The handler promised the dog would soon be back to "running around the house and chasing squirrels outside -- all the normal things."

Describing Malachy's nature, Fitzpatrick said "he's dignified, devoted, and a wonderful companion. He's charming."

Prince Charles leads Dickens anniverary celebrations

Charles John Huffam Dickens (7 February 1812 – 9 June 1870) was an English novelist, generally considered the greatest of the Victorian period. Dickens enjoyed a wider popularity and fame than had any previous author during his lifetime, and he remains popular, having been responsible for some of English literature's most iconic novels and characters.

Many of his writings were originally published serially, in monthly instalments, a format of publication which Dickens himself helped popularise. Unlike other authors who completed novels before serialisation, Dickens often created the episodes as they were being serialised. The practice lent his stories a particular rhythm, punctuated by cliffhangers to keep the public looking forward to the next instalment. The continuing popularity of his novels and short stories is such that they have never gone out of print.

Dickens's work has been highly praised for its realism, comedy, mastery of prose, unique personalities and concern for social reform by writers such as Leo Tolstoy, George Orwell and G. K. Chesterton; though others, such as Henry James and Virginia Woolf, have criticised it for sentimentality and implausibility.

Prince Charles is a global celebration on Tuesday marking the 200th anniversary of Charles Dickens, one of the most respected writers of English literature, who wrote "Bleak House" and "A Tale of Two Cities."

The British heir to the throne, visited by Charles Dickens Museum in London, where the American actress Gillian Anderson, who played Miss Havisham in the BBC adaptation of "Great Expectations" will be read on the job novelist.

The event will be the largest collection of the descendants of Dickens, with more than 200 members of the family going.

"This should help the Bicentennial reaffirm our commitment to improving the plight of the disadvantaged of our days," said Dean of Westminster, John Hall, referring to the concerns of Dickens social justice in their work and life.

British Council statement of the global "reading marathon" with 24 readings of 24 Dickens texts in 24 hours from Australia, taking in countries such as Iraq, China and Pakistan.

Current events coincides with the anniversary include exhibitions in Zurich, New York and across the UK, theatrical performances of professional artists and students, as well as online tribute to bloggers in Spain.

Lasting international community to Dickens due to the fact that his capture and brightest stories remain relevant today.

His first experiences working as a child in the factory while his father was imprisoned for debt, fueled by his ambition and inspired some of his most famous characters and settings are likely, including Fagin in "Oliver Twist."

The first story of Dickens' "appeared in 1833, around the time he became a parliamentary correspondent in London.

His first novel, "Pickwick Papers" was serialized in 1836 and became a success and was followed by "Oliver Twist" and "Nicholas Nickleby."

The author traveled to the United States in 1842 and 1867 on reading tours, and between them produced some of his most famous books - "Bleak House", "Hard Times", "Little Dorrit," "A Tale of Two Cities" and "Great Expectations" .

He carried a whiff of scandal, when in his mid-forties, he met a teenager Ellen Ternan, and their relationship led to his separation from Catherine, his wife and mother of his 10 children.

The author died at his home near Rochester in Kent in 1870 at age 58 and was buried in Poets Corner in Westminster Abbey. Thousands of people visited his open grave to pay tribute and throw flowers before its closure.

However, some members of the national network of G. Komen were unresolved.

G. Komen Affiliate in Connecticut posted a notice on his website stating that it is "a great partnership with planned parenthood of southern New England, and noting that the financing decision was taken at the national headquarters in G. Komen.

Progressive group MoveOn.org has launched an online petition calling for G. Komen to support their grant for family planning. He said 60.000 people were signed in a matter of hours.

Facebook IPO Expected to Boost Silicon Valley Economy

Facebook IPO Expected to Boost Silicon Valley Economy

It is expected that Facebook IPO will be a gift not only for the technology sector, but also for local entrepreneurs, who stated that they are smarter and better prepared to avoid the catastrophe of previous dotcom bubble.

Leonard Mezhvinsky, developer Millbro, California, spent the past three years, the construction of real estate in Hillsborough, 30 minutes north of the Facebook headquarters in Menlo Park. He expects $ 13 million; six-bedroom house is scheduled for completion in August or September, just in time for the employee Facebook recently rich from the initial public offering to spend a little money.

"It's very simple», Mezhvinsky said the question as Facebook in the IPO will affect the local real estate. "Facebook IPO instantly create several millionaires when they sell their shares to cash will look for higher end properties in and outside of San Francisco."

Mezhvinsky, the main winner on the development of the property, said that he had seen an increase in activity on the local market. He said that the growing interest in the property may be due to multi-millionaires cashing in stock or forecasting cash flow, after an initial public offering of nearby companies gamemaker Zynga in December and a social media site LinkedIn in May.

Early workers, or those with higher tenure, such as the founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg and many of his colleagues at Harvard, along with a team executive, is likely to have a majority of the shares of companies in more than 3,000 employees.

Mezhvinsky expects the wealth created from Facebook in the IPO dwarf, Zynga and LinkedIn together, although it will not instantaneously, as employees with stock options have to wait months to cash in their shares, and the newly rich usually takes some time to adjust to their newfound wealth, he said.

"They still live in apartments and small houses, and suddenly they have a $ 20 million IPO shares," said Mezhvinsky.

There are also rumors of speculators pulling out of property not far from the Facebook headquarters, in the hope of flipping the properties of the newly-rich workers. But Mezhvinsky said that developers were more cautious than they were before the dotcom bubble for more than ten years ago.

"Developers who are not careful, probably bankrupt now. Those who were semi-cautious now fully cautious," he said. "But as the economy improves in three or four years that will go away caution, as he always does."

Mezhvinsky, who began working in Silicon Valley in 2007, says developers who previously built three or four houses, before the real estate bubble may be set up one or two these days.

He said that "Every person in the cut of the risk-taking."

Ron Gong, managing director of financial management and advisory firm Harris myCFO wealth in Palo Alto, said that riches have attracted service providers, regardless of if it's Silicon Valley or elsewhere. But as people spend money and invest is different compared to the era of dotcom.

"Business models have been tested, and there is more experience," he said. "So the more realistic assumptions and a return to the basics of business, are used."

Hong, who worked in wealth management business in the area for 23 years, said most of the recent creation of wealth in Silicon Valley is due to social media and related technologies.

Harris myCFO, which means "a comprehensive Family Office", also has entrepreneurial roots in Silicon Valley. Hong said his company was accustomed to working with the ultra-affluent, who have at least $ 25 million in investable assets, and those who can not yet in this class of wealth, but it can be.

"Those are the people we want to work closely with and invest in them," he said.

Gong said that he could not disclose whether his client has worked for social media companies in Silicon Valley.

But he said: "We know very well all these companies, and in the heart of Silicon Valley, we are well versed in the management of wealth, which come on a daily basis."

Glencore and Xstrata in $80 billion merger talks

London - The mining group Xstrata and commodities trader Glencore are negotiating the transaction all share, which would create a combined group worth more than 50 billion pounds (79 billion U.S. dollars).
Trader largest diversified commodities in the world already owns 34 percent stake in Xstrata and bonds between the two Swiss business - potentially a big seizure to date in the industry - has long been expected as Glencore is designed to add more minutes to their trading CLOUT.
Speculation has accelerated after Glencore in bumper $ 10 billion listing in May, which gave the trader and his ambitious executive Ivan Glasenberg currency transactions. The list also allows the market to establish the value of Glencore - a key requirement of Xstrata shareholders and its management.
Glencore - a trader of metals, minerals and oil, which is also currently, has assets of mines to agricultural land - said at the time of going to the motives of the public after nearly four decades as a private company was to take advantage of acquisition. However, to date he has been restrained, foreclosures in minority Australian nickel producer Minara on and search for control of South African coal miner Optimum.
"It is expected that these two companies together and it's obviously a little faster than we expected, but it makes sense, considering how the company operates and the current market position, says an analyst at Collins Stewart, Tim Dudley.
Glencore shares fell nearly 17% since its inclusion, but it is still effective drop Xstrata.
News that Xstrata, the world's fourth-largest diversified group, has received a specific approach and in the discussions, the growth of both companies' shares, sending Xstrata to 13 percent and Glencore more than 5 percent in early London trading.
Glencore in Hong Kong traded shares gained 6 percent to trade was suspended.
"It confirms why Glencore became public. They are the capital to buy other companies, "said Ion-Marc Valahu, a fund manager at Geneva firm ClairInvest.
Both sides said there is no assurance that the proposal will be made and the deal was described as a proportion of all the "union of equal," which would mean a friendly transaction with no premium.
Both sides have very little overlap on the side of the mountain, means the combined entity, "Glen layers" will get a synergistic effect on certain areas of marketing, but otherwise will combine industry and operational assets, which will create a huge presence in copper and coal, among other products.
Merger of equals
Any deal would also have to be friendly, and means Glasenberg Executive Mick Davis Xstrata would have to agree on one thing that has so far kept the two friends - the valuation.
Davis and his Chairman John Bond, is expected to accept any agreement that does not contain any material up to the shareholders.
Glencore, although a shareholder cannot vote on the deal, leaving the decision with the agencies.
"(M) Makes a lot of sense. I think he should come, then," said Charles Stanley analyst Tom Gidle-Kitchin.
"It will be interesting to see whether the individual has a role in it - I think that would be resistant to the merger, which does not include a decent premium to Xstrata Mick Davis, but it will be interesting to see."
Xstrata himself made a "merger of equals" request for Anglo-American in 2009, but not after Davis has steadfastly refused to offer a premium.
Glasenberg Glencore has publicly stated that he sees value in a deal with Xstrata, while Davis said the prospect of both analysts as self-listed companies was "unsustainable."
If Glencore to buy all outstanding shares of Xstrata at current market prices, which will cost about 21 billion pounds, making it the largest deal in the sector with the acquisition of Rio Tinto's aluminum producer Alcan in 2007.

Alabama Judge Declares Missing Teen Natalee Holloway Dead

Alabama Judge Declares Missing Teen Natalee Holloway Dead : Alabama judge signed an order Thursday to announce Natalie Holloway died, more than six years after the American teenager disappeared on the Caribbean island of Aruba.

Judge Alan King signed the order at the end of the hearing in a courtroom in Birmingham which was attended by women of divorced parents is absent, David and Beth Holloway.

David Holloway, the judge said in September he believed that his daughter died and he wanted to stop payments to its health insurance and use her $ 2,000 college fund to help his younger brother. Hearing on Thursday was scheduled to question a suspect in the disappearance of Holloway, the Dutchman Joran van der Sloot, pleaded guilty Wednesday in Peru in 2010 murder of women in Lima.

Natalie Holloway disappeared on a high school graduation trip to Aruba on May 30, 2005.18-year-old was last seen leaving a bar with van der Sloot early in the day. Her body was never found, and it received close scrutiny of the media and international attention.

The king was acting at the request of David Holloway to the missing 18-year-old pronounced dead.

Mother teenagers, initially objected, but her lawyer, Charlie DeBardeleben, said she changed her mind later when she realized her husband's intentions. Natalie Holloway's parents divorced in 1993, Beth Holloway was sitting in the back row of the courtroom, mostly looking at her hands in her lap in the afternoon hearing on Thursday.

She declined to comment, but her lawyer said: "She is ready to move from that."

Mark White, Attorney Dave Holoway, told the judge before announced his decision that there was no evidence that Holloway was still alive.

"Despite all that there was no evidence has been found Natalie Holloway alive," he told the judge, noting that additional research, the blanket of the international media and even offer rewards have been proved to be something new.

The king ruled in September that Dave Holloway met the legal presumption of his daughter's death, and it was for someone to prove that she did not die at a high school graduation trip. He set a hearing today to a few months for those who come forward.

Dave Holloway said he expected to hear the judge pronounce his daughter is dead, because he had no doubt.

"We have been dealing with her death in the last six and a half years," he said.

He added that the goal judge closes a chapter in a long history, but added: "We still have a long way to achieve justice.

The authorities have long worked with the assumption that the young woman was dead, Aruba, where the case was officially classified as a homicide investigation.

The investigation remains open, although no recent activity, said Solicitor General Taco Stein, an official of the prosecutor's office in the Dutch Caribbean Island.

"The team that operated in that investigation is still functioning as a team, and they come together when there is information or things necessary in the case, or a new tip arrives," Stein said in a telephone interview Thursday.

In Peru, Van der Sloot, 24, pleaded guilty on Wednesday of killing 21-year-old woman, whom he met in the casino in Lima. Stephanie Flores was killed five years to the day after Natalie Holloway, the 18-year-old girl from a wealthy suburb of Birmingham, a mountain stream, disappeared. She was last seen leaving a bar with van der Sloot.

Shortly after the death of Flores' May 30, 2010, van der Sloot told police he killed a woman in Peru in a fit of rage after she found on his laptop, he has to do with the disappearance of Holloway. Police forensic experts disputed the claim.

Dave Holloway said he hoped van der Sloot gets 30-year sentence sought Peruvian prosecutors.

"Everyone knows his identity. I believe that he is beyond rehabilitation," said Holloway.

The lawyers said both parents said they hope the next stop of van der Sloot is Birmingham; where he faces federal charges accusing him of extorting $ 25,000 from Beth Holloway reveal the whereabouts of her daughter's body. Prosecutors said the money was paid, but nothing was disclosed the whereabouts of missing women.

"I expect to see him in Birmingham," said Dave Holloway.

Three Friday the 13ths, 13 weeks apart, a rarity

Three Friday the 13ths, 13 weeks apart, a rarity: It's a bad year for people who suffer from paraskevidekatriaphobia - fear of Friday the 13th.
Why? There are three this year, instead of the usual two. There was one in 2011.
That's not all. For the first time since 1984, these three Friday 13ths - today, April 13 and July 13 - exactly 13 weeks.
Three Friday 13ths to happen every few let.Posledny was in 2009, and further, to 2015. What is special in 2012 - and what does not happen again until 2040 - is that it occurs during a leap year, says Tom Fernsler, University of Delaware professor of mathematics, who sometimes goes by the name of the doctor 13.
It's hard not to feel something on Friday 13th, Fernsler said. "I believe that 95% of people in the world, something superstitious, and the other 5% are liars," he said.
Number 13 and Friday recurring presences in the mythological, spiritual and religious traditions. In Christianity, 13 people attended the Last Supper to "betrayal of Judas and Jesus death on the Norwegian pyatnitsu.Mif warns of adverse consequences for the dining room in groups of up to 13 years. Friday the 13th was the date of the medieval Knights Templar was imprisoned. And although and not as a historical, rapper Tupac Shakur died Friday, September 13, 1996, after a shot on September 7.
For many pagans, 13 is a lucky number because it represents the number of full moons each year, says Ivo Dominguez Jr., owner of Bell, Book and Candle, pagan and occult books and gift store in Dover, Delaware
Although Friday the 13th can feel special, it's not. In the 400-year period, the 13th falls on a Friday than on any other day: 688 times, Fernsler said.
Fernsler made a hobby to find dates and events related to the number 13 and Friday 13 go.Den held several well-known genera, such as Fidel Castro and Butch Cassidy.
Dominguez argues, Friday 13th fears "self-fulfilling prophecy," adding that "there are strong power of the people, convincing himself that something unlucky happens."

New Hampshire debate

At New Hampshire Debate: CONCORD, NH - Mitt Romney, the Republican candidates made last-ditch effort to relieve their favorite Republican Party on Sunday morning in the main debate, attacking Romney's conservative credentials and his self-description as a political outsider.

Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum, Romney's two most formidable opponents on the right, accused the former governor of Massachusetts from the beginning.

Two conservative upstarts set the tag team attack on Romney. Santorum accused Romney of "salvation" from a difficult 2006 reelection campaign, when Romney cast as the others of his time outside the office as a selfless choice, Gingrich attacked.

"Can we throw some pious nonsense?" Gingrich asked Romney. "You were running for president, while you were governor ... You then quickly returned to politics. You have lost to McCain, you lost [Ted] Kennedy [in 1994."

Gingrich continued to go: "Only on one level with the American people. You're running with at least the 1990s."

Romney, facing sustained attack on the debate stage for the first time in this cycle, stuck to his version of events.

"I never thought that I was involved in politics," he said, speaking of his race against Kennedy: "I accidentally was wise enough to realize that I had not the slightest chance of beating him."

Three other candidates on the same stage in Concord at the candidate forum hosted by NBC News and Facebook: Rick Perry, Ron Paul and John Hunter.

The tone is markedly different from the debate Saturday night, the candidates seemed to understand that there is no direct confrontation with Romney - who is far ahead in the polls for the primary on Tuesday - it will be well on his way to claiming the Republican presidential nomination.

Even mild-mannered hunter went out of his way to seek time unlike Romney, Romney's comment on education earlier discussions, swatting Hunter that he served in the Obama administration.

"I was criticized yesterday Governor Romney for my country first," Hunter said. "I want to be very clear with the people in this country. I always put my country."

Romney was reacted to the line of attack, reminding the audience that the Republican hunter was once described by President Barack Obama as "a remarkable leader."

"I think that we are serving our country, first by standing for the people who stand for conservative principles," said Romney.

Clark celebrates 40 years rocking New Year's Eve

Clark celebrates 40 years rocking New Year's Eve : NEW YORK- Forty years ago, New Year's Dick Clark's special was created to give young people an alternative to seasonal facilities, bandleader Guy Lombardo.
Now Clark's annual show is an institution.
"New Year's Rockin 'Eve", with Clark and Ryan Seacrest, pays tribute to its history during the stretch, nearly six-hour program on Saturday evening. The celebration takes all prime time on ABC, half an hour break for local news, then returns to the air for two and a quarter hours, which includes the ball drop in Times Square in New York to mark the beginning of 2012.
"I'm looking forward to this time, 2:15 (Sunday morning)," said Larry Klein, who has been producing shows since 1977.
Clark special shows no sign of slippage, after collecting his biggest audience in five years last year. 18.8 million people who watched ABC in the last half of 2010 and first half-hour in 2011 were more than the audience of NBC and Fox, in combination, the company Nielsen Ratings said.
Not designed to show a summary of the year in music, but it's almost what it is, Klein said.
A total of 29 separate musical performances are planned.

This may seem wrong with this lineup, but Klein said reservations call the show, because performers often offers some of its most lucrative gigs on the eve of New Year. That Clark has to offer is the impact of a large audience not often seen this side of "American Idol".
And it is unique. Klein remembers the joy of Jennifer Lopez a few years ago after the Times Square, despite wearing a skimpy outfit and be pelted by freezing rain.
"No matter how I try to explain to people what it's like to be in Times Square to live, I can not do it justice," he said. "You have to experience it once in your life."
During the first two hours, ABC will show clips of speeches from past New Year's Eve events, which Klein describes as a fascinating journey through his hair, clothes and musical styles. Top stars Clark "Rockin 'Eve" included Al Green, Helen Reddy, and Three Dog Night.
The new year also marks the annual appearance of Clark, once a ubiquitous presence on television. Turn makes it difficult for Clark to talk, but he does not want to miss this show, Klein said.
"Dick, Dick Clark is still," he said. "His relationship a bit more complicated, but it is still involved in contemporary music. He listens a lot, he knows a lot, he is still involved in production. It is very important to him. This is one of his children."
Among the other major broadcasters, NBC and Fox will both be in Times Square New Year's Eve, too. CBS hands the night of its schedule for its local affiliates.
